A Little History Behind Klein Orthodontics
A desire to live "out West" and an invitaion to be a professor at the University of Oregon Orthodontic Department brought Dr. Paul Klein and his family from Iowa to Oregon. The Klein family moved to Lake Oswego in 1954 and Paul Klein became the town's first orthodontist. In 1969, Klein co-invented "Alastiks", the simple but ingenious use of small elastic bands instead of wires to fasten archwires to individual braces. This invention revolutionized orthodontics worldwide. The next time you see a child or adult with small, colored elastic bands on their braces, you are looking at one of Dr. Paul Klein's inventions. Another major advance was the invention of the widely used headgear safety mechanism. Dr. Paul has patented many inventions in orthodontic equipment.
